The Sun says England football anthem Three Lions is facing the axe as the country’s official World Cup song as FA bosses fear it might offend other nations. England legend Paul Gascoigne tells the paper the song is in “our DNA” and will “help the boys in Qatar”.
Sticking with football the Metro leads on the news that the shirt Diego Maradona was wearing when he scored the infamous Hand of God goal against England has sold for £7.1m at auction. “The Hand if Wad” is the headline.
The Daily Telegraph continues to report on calls for an inquiry into the French-made missiles used to sink the HMS Sheffield during the Falklands War 40 years ago. The paper says Lord Tebbit, who was a member of Margaret Thatcher’s government at the time, has added his voice to calls for the French to “explain themselves”.
The Financial Times reports on the US Federal Reserve raising its benchmark policy rate by half a percentage point for the first time since 2000. The paper says the Fed is embracing a more aggressive approach to tackling high inflation.
